Bacterial vaginosis is not a serious, life-threatening disease, but its symptoms can cause great discomfort and are surely capable of driving you up the wall!
The typical symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are:
• Mild to moderate increase in vaginal discharge, usually accompanied with a foul and almost fishy vaginal odor
• Vaginal discharge appears thin and greyish white
• Bubbles may be present in the vaginal fluid
• The symptoms mentioned above usually become more obvious after sexual intercourse
Although not a dangerous disorder, bacterial vaginosis may cause certain complications in some women:
• Enhanced risk of infection after pelvic surgery
• Women with bacterial vaginosis get infected with sexually transmitted infections more easily
• Lower success rate if the woman is undergoing in-vitro fertilization procedures
• Increased risk of pregnancy complications, such as preterm labour and premature ruptures of membrane, if the woman is pregnant with bacterial vaginosis
